Public education, changes in engineering, and access to safety devices are a few intervention strategies designed to reduce injuries. Evidenced-based policies that support safer choices are also critical to reduce the number and the severity of injuries.
An Assessment of Trauma Care in Arkansas
Trauma is the leading cause of death among Americans younger than 45 years and Arkansas has a death rate from unintentional injury trauma that is nearly 50% greater than the national rate. The attached report, written and compiled by Stephen M. Bowman, PhD, assesses Arkansas' capacity to provide trauma care to children and adults, identifies needs and gaps in service, and provides the basis for development of a statewide or regional trauma care system(s) in Arkansas.
