Arkansas has one of the highest child and adolescent injury rates in the nation. Most of these injuries are unintentional, and many of them are preventable. The Injury Prevention Center (IPC) at Arkansas Children's Hospital is working to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities to Arkansas children through an aggressive and proactive program.
Goals of the IPC are to reduce unintentional injury-related deaths and disability among the children and youth of Arkansas. Strategies include public awareness and education, professional training, and identification of evidence-based policies to promote safety in motor vehicles, in recreation, and in the home. Particular focus areas for Arkansas include increased and proper use of seatbelts and car seats for children, teenage driving initiatives, and the safe operation of all-terrain vehicles.

- An Assessment of Trauma Care in Arkansas
Trauma is the leading cause of death among Americans younger than 45 years. Despite an Arkansas injury death rate of nearly 50% greater than the national rate, Arkansas remains the only state without any formally designated or verified trauma hospitals.
