Camp Sunshine and Other Resources for Burn Survivors
Camp Sunshine
Children who have been severely burned are welcome to our free camp where they
can fish, swim, play games and have fun in a setting that is comfortable and
accepting. We also encourage adult burn survivors to come to camp to act as
role models and counselors for the kids.
This camp is sponsored by the Arkansas Professional Firefighters Association
who raise all the money. Most of the counselors at camp are firefighters, burn
survivors or staff from The Burn Center. Camp is usually around the end of August.
Burn Survivors
If you or someone in your family has survived a burn injury and need help in
any way, please contact The Burn Center. We offer support for burn survivors
and their families including:
School Re-entry—we will come to your school to teach the other kids
and the teachers what you have been through and help them understand what
special needs you might have or help them understand that you are just like
everyone else.
Re-entry for adults—we will come to your business, church or community
and help them understand what you have been through. This may ease the transitionback to home or help you if you move into a new community.
Wound Care and Rehab assistance—If you are having trouble with wound
care, pressure garments, splints, or any daily activities, call The Burn Center
for help.
Call or e-mail us at wilkinsonge@archildrens.org if you would like help or just want more information about the services we
provide.
Home Health and Rehabilitation Classes and Resources
For those of you who are helping care for a burn survivor, we will come to
your organization and provide our FREE continuing
education class about Burn Wound Care and Rehabilitation.

a burn patient after they are discharged from The Burn Center.
The specific content will be customized for the needs of your staff and may
include:
Wound Care
Pressure Garments and Splints
Psychosocial Issues
Prognosis/Long Term Care of Patients
