The ACH Junior Volunteer Program offers service opportunities for high school
students (ages 14-18). Junior volunteers gain new skills, meet new people, and
help make a difference in the community!
Requirements for Junior Volunteers:
Please note that applications are considered complete
when all requirements are received. In order to participate
in a volunteer session, the applicant
must have all requirements turned in by the session deadline. Deadlines are
May 1 (summer session), August 31 (fall session), and December 15 (spring
session). An application, two teacher references, two-part
TB skin test results, and a signed "Rules and Regulations" form
should be submitted by the session deadline in order to be considered
for the program.
Junior volunteers can serve in direct patient contact areas and indirect patient
contact areas. Some of these placements include:
- Art Cart
- Playroom
- Clinics (including Radiology, ENT, Eye, Dental and various general pediatric
clinics)
- Clerical areas
- Labs
Junior Volunteer Program Dates:
Unlike the adult program that begins monthly, the Junior Volunteer Program
coincides with school by starting three times each year – fall, spring
and summer. Spaces are limited so submitting applications early is strongly
encouraged. The deadlines for the Junior Volunteer Program are as follows:
Fall – August 31
Spring – December 15
Summer – May 1
Fall and Spring Junior Volunteer Program
The application deadline for the fall program is August 31 and the deadline
for the spring program is December 15. Many of our fall and spring junior volunteers
are special project or seasonal volunteers. Project and seasonal volunteers
come in for a 4 or 8 hour shift on days out of school and school holidays.
These volunteers help in the areas with the greatest need: arts and crafts
in our outpatient clinics, clerical help in offices, or other projects around
the hospital.
2008 Summer Junior Volunteer Program
The application deadline for the summer 2008 Junior Volunteer Program will
be May 1, 2008. Submitting an early application (after December 2007) is
strongly encouraged. Please note the program requirements
- two-part TB Skin Test, 2 letters of recommendation from teachers, and
a signed "Rules and Regulations" form.
We suggest you ask your teachers for letters of recommendation early! Remember
that all requirements must be met before your application is
considered complete.
The summer program is structured differently than the fall and spring programs.
There are three 2-week sessions (Monday through Friday) from which to choose.
Volunteers are asked to choose one session in which to participate, and it
is mandatory that they commit to volunteering for the entire session (including
the first day’s
orientation).

June 17 – June 27
Session 2 - Session is Full
July 14 – Orientation
